Introduction: The family is the most important environment for shaping physical activity (PA) habits in children and adolescents.
Objective: The purpose of the study was to design and confirm the validity and reliability of the questionnaire on family support in physical activity for adolescents (QFSPAA) in the Peruvian context.
Methodology: The study was developed in 1202 adolescent schoolchildren (626 males and 576 females) between the ages of 12 and 19 years (M=14.41, SD=1.565) from several Peruvian departments.
Results: Content validity reported optimal concordance and agreement values among experts (≥0.92). Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the validity of the expert-approved bifactorial model, demonstrating optimal construct validity (c2/gl =4.998, SRMR=.035, RMSEA=.067, CFI=0.998, TLI=0.997). Concurrent validity con-firmed that CAFAFA and the external criterion measured similarly (0.80). The invariance showed that the results can be compared between school adolescents from the coastal, highland and jungle regions. Finally, the internal consistency reliability (≥0.945) and test-retest reliability (≥0.812) reported adequate values.
Discussion: The QFSPAA is the first questionnaire that measures family support in PA for adolescents according to the current trend, in an integrated manner and with the participation of the entire family (parents, siblings, grandparents, among other members).
Conclusions: The results confirmed that the QFSPAA is a valid and reliable instrument that objectively and invariably measures the motivational and assistance behaviors of the family in PA of adolescents in the rural context.
