O impacto da comparação entre o ioga e o exercício aeróbico no controlo da asma, na função pulmonar e na qualidade de vida

Resumo

Introdução: Os sintomas respiratórios da asma, uma doença crónica das vias aéreas cuja frequência, gravidade e incidência variam ao longo do tempo, incluem sibilância, dispneia, aperto no peito e tosse. Inúmeros fatores, como a atividade física, a exposição a alergénios ou irritantes, as alterações climáticas e as infeções respiratórias virais, podem provocar estas variações.

Objectivo: Este estudo avaliou os efeitos do ioga e do exercício aeróbico na qualidade de vida, função pulmonar e controlo da asma em doentes com asma.

Metodologia: Para além do tratamento habitual, os grupos de exercício aeróbico e de ioga participaram em sessões de 45 minutos de exercício aeróbico e de ioga, três vezes por dia, durante três meses. Os testes de função pulmonar (TFP), o teste de controlo da asma (TCA), o questionário de qualidade de vida na asma (QVAS) e os registos de observação do doente estavam entre as ferramentas utilizadas para avaliar os desfechos.

Resultados: O grupo de ioga obteve uma pontuação significativamente mais elevada (p < 0,05) no TCA, no QVAS geral e nas subescalas do que o grupo cardio. No entanto, os valores de pico de fluxo expiratório (PFE) e os parâmetros de PFT não apresentaram diferenças significativas entre os grupos (p > 0,05).

Discussão: Este estudo procurou avaliar de forma abrangente os efeitos do ioga, do exercício aeróbico e de um grupo de controlo no controlo da asma, com foco na forma como estas atividades impactam a função respiratória, a qualidade de vida e a gestão da asma em asmáticos.

Conclusão: O ioga melhorou a qualidade de vida e o controlo da asma em asmáticos, mas não teve qualquer efeito detetável nos níveis de PFT.
