Abstract

Introduction. The linking of the student to university life generates modification of the patterns related to lifestyles, which affects mental health, and from the research perspectives it is associated with the processes of coping and emotional state. Aim. Establish a correlation between the coping processes and perceived emotional state of undergraduate students of a Colombian public university. Materials and methods. Cross-sectional correlational descriptive study, with a population of 295 university students, where the CEVJU-R University Youth Lifestyles Questionnaire was applied, from the dimensions of Interpersonal relationships, Coping and perceived emotional state, the normality of the sample was estimated Together with Spearman correlation analysis and chi square (p <.05), the Mann Whitney U test was used to establish the magnitude of the variables referring to sex. Results. Students have healthy practices in the dimension of Interpersonal Relationships, and Coping, but it was found that Perceived Emotional State manifest unhealthy practices, in the same way the association between emotional states and coping presents a weak positive correlation. Conclusions. University life generates repercussions on the students' lifestyles, generating trends associated with the level of coping with problematic situations and the prevalence of living alone, in the same way, an incidence of negative practices associated with the emotional states of the women, while men stood out for presenting healthy actions in all dimensions.
