The department of Quindío hosts four professional team sports clubs, whose athletes undergo intense training regimens for optimal preparation. High levels of fatigue, muscle soreness, and exhaustion are common after competitions, making it crucial to understand the recovery methods employed. Consequently, this research aimed to explore the knowledge and perceptions regarding sports massage among professional team sports athletes in Quindío. The study adopted a quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental design and utilized a 24-question survey, which included 5 demographic questions, 13 perception-related questions, and 6 knowledge-evaluating questions. The survey was pre-validated to ensure athletes could respond quickly and concisely. The findings revealed that the perception-related questions received predominantly high positive responses, with over 90% of athletes perceiving sports massage as beneficial for both performance and recovery. However, a small proportion of football players from the Deportes Quindío team had a less favorable perception. Regarding knowledge of sports massage, while the percentage of positive responses was lower, it remained above 60%. In conclusion, the study indicates that both the perception and knowledge of professional team athletes in Quindío regarding sports massage are positive, recognizing its contribution to maintenance, recovery, and injury prevention, as well as their enjoyment of this recovery method.
