Autoestima corporal, autoconcepto físico y trastornos de la conducta alimentaria en estudiantes universitarios: un estudio transversal

Resumen

Introducción: en la actualidad, la etapa universitaria representa un período en el que los estudiantes atraviesan importantes transformaciones personales, sociales y emocionales. En este contexto, suelen aparecer preocupaciones vinculadas con la autoestima corporal, el autoconcepto físico y los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria.

Objetivo: determinar si existe una relación significativa entre la autoestima corporal, el autoconcepto físico y los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria en estudiantes universitarios del sur del Perú.

Metodología: se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, no experimental, correlacional y transversal. La muestra estuvo conformada por 474 estudiantes a quienes se les administraron la Escala de Autoestima Corporal (EAC), el Cuestionario de Autoconcepto Físico (CAF) y el Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), instrumentos con adecuadas propiedades métricas. 

Resultados: se encontró una correlación positiva alta entre la autoestima corporal y el autoconcepto físico (r = 0.707, p < 0.01), lo que indica que los estudiantes con mayor autoestima corporal tienden a percibir un mejor autoconcepto físico. Asimismo, se evidenció que tanto la autoestima corporal (r= -0.277, p<0.01) como el autoconcepto físico (r= -0.218, p<0.01) presentan correlaciones negativas significativas con los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria, lo que sugiere que niveles más bajos de autoestima corporal y autoconcepto físico se asocian con mayores niveles de estos trastornos.

Discusión: aunque algunos estudios respaldan estos hallazgos, se requieren investigaciones adicionales para corroborar y ampliar estos resultados. 

Conclusiones: existe una relación significativa entre la autoestima corporal, el autoconcepto físico y los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria en estudiantes universitarios del sur del Perú.
